Ideas to get things started

  1. Give children a role in the planning and appoint a “safety belt checker” for every family. This person will be responsible for checking to make sure that the driver and all passengers are buckled up correctly before telling the driver that it's okay to proceed.
  2. Work with local Departments of Parks and Recreation to install “Remember to Buckle Up” at the entrances and exits to their picnic sites.
  3. Place “The [insert family name] family always buckles up” ads in reunion programs and remembrance books.
  4. Encourage host facilities to put copies of the local safety belt and child safety seat laws at their front desks and on their in-house television network.
