Tips on Using this Promotional Planner

The "Click It or Ticket" planner in Spanish has been created to provide marketing material tools and templates you can tailor and distribute to fit the needs of your local Hispanic community, or when partnering with other organizations and states. This planner incorporates the enforcement message in the form of creative pieces and earned media to fit your campaign needs.

It is imperative that Spanish-Dominant Latino males know the legal consequences of not wearing their safety belt in automobiles. Drivers and passengers from the target audience may not use belts because usage was not enforced in their native countries. And like their general market counterparts, the audience may also feel physically uncomfortable, or less “manly” while wearing a safety belt.

The core Hispanic target for this planner is males ages 18 to 34, recent immigrant/newly arrived, or non-acculturated into the American mainstream. This audience speaks, reads and writes primarily or almost always in Spanish. The best way to reach the target is through their community-based organizations, health care organizations and churches. With language as a barrier, as well as a mistrust of authority, the best way to ensure that your message is reaching them is to always connect with them where they live, work, play, and pray.

Copy on all posters below has been translated to English for your knowledge. Earned media materials will be posted in the weeks leading up to the mobilization, so please check back for written pieces. You can find more information about the Hispanic population in your area by visiting www.census.gov.

Creative Materials

The creative campaign utilizes a number of universal design elements to engage the target audience and assist in message adoption. Each visual design presents a panel for law enforcement messaging. Headline messaging is placed in a red box, while supporting text is placed in a black box. The red-black- and white text combination provides maximum contrast and evokes a sense of alarm and an air of seriousness.

In addition, a transparent seat belt design overlays each poster, visually communicating the campaign's key message above and beyond the creative copy. This approach takes into account the two levels of human interpretation: the visual and the written. In a crowded media environment, it is critical that messaging be conveyed on multiple levels.

The dimensions of the poster can be used also for a tabloid-sized advertisement space in community newspapers. Black and white versions are also presented for newspapers not printed in color.
